of becoming a not so silent girl, putting some thoughts and writing down - loosely about how I got here, what’s been happening, what happened, how things happened and still happen. My roots are deep stretching back to the early 1970s as a child, then a punk and then forming what became known as one of the first post-punk bands that emerged from Bristol, UK - Maximum Joy. We quickly became a successful touring band, were signed to indie label Y Records and had 4 well receieved releases within the space of a year. The trajectory was only forward and up from there, until life threw a massive juggernaut my way and the path I was firmly on fell apart spectacularly - violent sexual assault, narrow escape from attempted murder, trauma and recovery are all a part of this. Thankfully I’m here and now in 2024, this is something I’m naturally extremely grateful for. I believe strongly in today, here and now - and am blessed and consider it miraculous to be working on my music again now. The impact of the traumatic event(s) meant that my career in music stopped completely in the 80s, it was taken away from me - I started performing publicly again in 2014, something I for many years never imagined could ever happen again, it feels like a second chance.
In this new Substack I”m going to be sharing my experience(s) and views, things I’ve learnt and continue to learn as a musician; producer; singer; songwriter amongst other things.
There’s been lots going on behind the scenes these past months, which is partly why I wanted to start this occasional blog/writing, to share about this also - more will be revealed soon, subscribers to this Substack will be the first to hear more and receive exclusive insights and more.
There will be occasional articles that are free for all, and the rest on subscription basis. The chat space where people can converse and contribute also comes with the small subscription fee, subscribing will offer more in depth exclusive articles and other exclusives. As a musician/ producer/singer/ original post-punk - with history - there are experiences and words I’d like to share. I also want to offer insight into my production process amongst other things, and believe there’s value in sharing experience and in the words, art and music. In sharing my experiences I hope there may be parts, moments, feelings that may resonate and connect with you. That to me is the thing - resonating, sharing, connecting.
There will be more to come in the first mail out. You can subscribe anytime but the first few articles will be free.
